At its heart, historical Augusta is still a small to mid-sized city with all the perks of the bustling new growth brought by fresh opportunities and a great local economy. The Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) is an all-encompassing term often used to describe "Augusta." This includes Richmond County, Columbia County, and North Augusta, SC.
Augusta GA is primarily known for three things:
Nearby outdoor recreation includes Clarks Hill Lake/Lake Thurmond, the Augusta Canal, and Savannah Rapids all with beautiful waterfront views, nature trails, and outdoor activity opportunities.
Other recreational activities can be found at Bell Auditorium, The Miller Theater, The Imperial Theater, The Lady Antebellum amphitheater, James Brown Arena, and the brand new Columbia County Performing Arts Center.
The Masters is treated as a holiday week in Augusta, much like Mardi Gras is a holiday in New Orleans. There are two ways to approach the week - stay and celebrate in all the festivities or use the week to rent your home to pay for a vacation (it's tax free to rent your house for one week per year). There are many companies who help with masters rental preparations.
Fort Gordon is a large army base nearest to a suburb of Augusta called Grovetown GA. The fort is booming more than ever before and is bringing consistent, positive growth to our area. The US Cyber Command Center has now fully opened on base as well so that draws even more new families to the CSRA for high paying civilian and military jobs.
Richmond County, specifically the Summerville district, is the historical part of Augusta. Many people in Richmond County use private schools through the 8th grade and perhaps beyond. There are multiple church affiliations and secular private schools available. For high school, there is also a public high school with an International Baccalaureate program, which many students choose.
Surrey Center is close by and is a boutique-type development with restaurants and shops.
Columbia County is connected to downtown Augusta and the hospital area by Riverwatch Parkway. It makes up the bulk of the CSRA’s suburbs, restaurants, shops, and amenities and continues to grow rapidly. Many families in Columbia County take advantage of the public schools.
Evans, a suburb within Columbia County, was rated the #1 best city in America to live in by Money Magazine in 2020.
North Augusta is in South Carolina, just across the river from downtown Augusta GA. There has been much new development there recently. The new baseball stadium, amphitheater, Hammonds Ferry neighborhood, and Greenway are located in close proximity to each other and are the hub of growth there.
